Craig W. Clark, MA, MFT
Craig W. Clark, MA, MFT is a licensed Marriage, Family Therapist with private practice
offices in Capitola and Santa Clara, California. He earned his masters degree in Clinical
Psychology from John F. Kennedy University. He became interested in foster and
adoptive populations while an intern with Future Families, a licensed foster and adoption
agency, where he worked as therapist and case manager serving to support and maintain
children and adolescents in therapeutic foster and adoptive homes. In that capacity, he
also led parenting groups and taught foster parent licensing classes. In 1999 he helped
provide the first series of eight Adoption Clinical Trainings to mental health
professionals and social workers in Santa Clara County, California.
Mr. Clark’s areas of special interest include working with children and adolescents with
histories of abuse, trauma, neglect and/or loss of caregivers. Often these children have
poor attachment qualities and suffer from symptoms of insecure attachment. In July of
2001 he began training with Daniel Hughes, PhD, the originator of Dyadic
Developmental Psychotherapy. This year he completed his sixth year of training with Dr.
Hughes.
Mr. Clark is Associate Professor at John F. Kennedy University, Graduate School of
Professional Psychology, where he teaches courses in Child and Adolescent Treatment,
Advanced Child and Adolescent Treatment, Theories of Therapeutic Practice, Clinical
Application of Attachment Theory, Psychopathology, and is a clinical supervisor at the
JFKU Community Counseling Center in Sunnyvale, CA. Mr. Clark has presented
workshops for Santa Cruz County DFCS; the Annual Conference of ATTACh; and for
JFK University’s continuing education department. He coauthored the book: “Creating
Capacity for Attachment: Dyadic Developmental Psychotherapy in the Treatment of
Trauma-Attachment Disorders”, published in July 2005. Mr. Clark has provided
consultant services to San Francisco and Monterey Bay area agencies including Kinship
Center’s AFTER Program and Center for Healthy Development.
Mr. Clark is a resident of Capitola, California, where he and his wife have lovingly guided
two boys into adulthood.
